The History

Intaglio Printmaker has its roots firmly fixed in Australian heritage. In 1981 Intaglio Printmaker opened in London as a brave new venture for its Australian owners who had personal interests in the UK. Karyn White initially came over from Australia on behalf of the owners to set up the first shop in Newington Causeway SE1. Following a challenging year rebuilding a derelict warehouse and launching the shop, it was time to call in Christine Munton (the first Brit in the business!) to do the book-keeping and keep a check on the finances. In 1988, after a move to the Angel, Islington, Karyn and Christine bought the business from the Australian partners. Two moves later have returned us back to SE1 in Southwark.

The Directors

Karyn and Christine have very different backgrounds and skill sets which compliment each other to make them both a formidable team and great friends.

Karyn (The Art Director)
Born in the state of Victoria, Australia, Karyn studied printmaking in Melbourne and went on to teach art in secondary education for two years. On work experience she worked for Melbourne Etching Supplies and was offered the opportunity to pioneer a new venture in the UK, the rest, as they say is history! Karyn now combines being a partner at Intaglio, with being a very accomplished artist and a mum.

Christine (The Financial Director)
Born in Rutland, England, Christine studied Business Studies in Nottingham. She moved to London in 1982 and forged a career in the Financial Sector. For years she combined her work as partner of Intaglio with a full-time accountancy role and eventually became a Financial Controller for a firm of stockbrokers. In May 2006 she showed considerable creative courage by leaving her life in the city to take the reigns at Intaglio full-time.
