Visiting our Shop

Do you have a shop I can visit?
Yes, we have a central London shop from which we despatch all our orders. You can come to browse, buy, try out our tools and talk to our very knowledgable staff. We will also get very excited if you bring a dog with you. Our address is 9 Playhouse Court, 62 Southwark Bridge Road, London SE1 0AT. If you use the postcode on a smart-phone app or a satnav it may take you to the back of the building. We are on Southwark Bridge Road in a small courtyard/alleyway opposite a Shell Petrol Station. You can find a map here.

What are your opening times?
Monday to Friday 10am-6pm, Saturday 11am-4pm and on Sunday we are closed

Do you have parking?
No. Like most central London shops we don’t have that facility. If you are picking up something heavy or large and wish to drive, please call us first as we are on a bus lane. We are also in the congestion charge and low emission zone.

What is your nearest tube station?
Our closet station is Borough on the Northern line (5 minute walk) but we are also within easy walking distance of Southwark on the Jubilee Line, Blackfriars, and London Bridge stations (both 10 minute walks).

How accessible is the shop?
We are located in a basement that unfortunately has no wheelchair access. However, we can bring things up to street-level and will do whatever we can to give customers access to what is in the shop and the expertise that lies therein.

Product Questions

Do you offer a tool sharpening service?
No, unfortunately that is not a service we offer at this time.

My cartridges and tins seem to have different amounts of ink them, why is that?
The ink in cartridges and tins are sold by weight. Inks with a denser pigment such as an Opaque White weigh more than less dense pigments. This means there will be less ink by volume than the lighter pigments.

Do you cut plates to size?
We cut Copper, Zinc, Aluminium, Zinc Jetplate and Photopolymer plates to size as requested for a small fee. Please make sure you add your cutting fee to your order otherwise we will not be able to cut your order. All cutting is done manually by our staff using a guillotine. We aim to be as accurate as possible but cannot cut to points of a millimetre.
If you would like your plates cut please either make a note in the comments section on your order, email us a cutting diagram or call us.
It is not always possible to cut plates whilst you wait, especially on a Saturday. Please call us in advance if you wish to collect.
We do NOT cut Steel or Acrylic plate.

Why does it cost more to get a Photopolymer Plate cut rather than metal?
Photopolymer plates are very thin and bend easily so require a double cut on each edge. This ensures a flat edge for an even exposure across the whole plate. This is a labour-intensive process so the prices reflect that.

Do you cut paper to size?
No, we don’t. However, if you are ordering a significant amount of paper in pack sizes and want to get that cut, please contact us and we can get a quote from our supplier. Occasionally you may find cut down packs in the shop, these are one-offs and are not available online.

I want a paper you don’t stock. Can you order it in for me?
If it is a paper that our wholesale supplier stocks, we can get it for you at their RRP. Paper specifically ordered in will usually be required to be bought in packs as we cannot sell single sheets. Please contact us with the paper you require and we will check the availability from our suppliers.

What blankets do I need to buy for my press and what order do they go on?
We would recommend that you have a set of all three for doing work with fine detail. The Pressed Wool Felt at the top by the roller, the Woven Wool Flannel in the middle and the Superfine Wool Flannel at the bottom as the fronting blanket. If you are using your press for relief printing you can have just one or two blankets, the fronting blanket can be the Woven Wool Flannel. We are happy to discuss your needs with you if you are unsure.

How do I order blanket?
We sell blanket by the square inch. When ordering you will need to multiple the length by the width. e.g. 24“ by 10” would be 240 square inches. At checkout please enter the dimensions you will need it cutting to in the comments box.
It is not always possible to cut blankets whilst you wait, especially on a Saturday. Please call us in advance if you wish to collect
