Ball Grained Aluminium

An alternative to using a litho-stone. These aluminium plates are grained to a 220 grade on a vintage Algraphy ball grainer at The Lemonade Press. 220 grade is equivalent to a fine grained litho stone.

Unlike traditional limestone the grained metal plate is not porous, so the grain structure of the plate is where the grease from the drawing materials is held.

Traditional lithographic drawing materials can be used in the same way on ball ground plates as they are on lithographic limestone. Direct lithography presses, offset lithography presses and intaglio presses can all be used to print.
