Mitsumata Washi is an artists handmade paper made from the inner bark or bast fibre of the mitsumata. Mitsumata is lighter toned and softer than lokta. Known as argeli in Nepal, this is a native plant of the Himalayan foothills and is a sustainable and renewable resource. The plants are cropped above ground level and can be reharvested after 3-4 years. The papers are made using the Japanese nagashizuki dipping and layering method of papermaking.
